My name is Jim Burns

After retiring from a 30 year stint working for the City of New York I reached the long awaited “age of retirement”. Though for some I am still too young, for me it couldn’t have come soon enough.  I sometimes miss the BUZZ of NYC but as I get older the longing is fading. So I ask myself “What the hell are you doing in Bangkok?” As much as “Krung Thep” aka Bangkok is as busy and chaotic as NYC, it is also different in more ways than I imagined here in Thailand. I have been coming to the Land of Smiles every year for 8 years. Most trips were for one month. These last 2 years we have stayed here a bit longer. There is a lot to see.

I have never been one to take in all the sites. At the age of 51 and as a lifelong New Yorker I finally made it to the Statue of Liberty. Among all of those smiling faces there was I grumbling about the long line and dreading the traffic I would face when we left. We have a family joke about when the president comes to town; most folks can’t wait to catch a glimpse while “real New Yorkers” dread the street closures and bumper to bumper traffic.

On this blog you may see pictures of some tourist attractions but I hope to share more of the real Thailand, as that is what I hope experience.

I hope you enjoy the pictures, videos and comments on my blog. Please feel free to comment or ask questions and I will respond with whatever information I have.

Dhammapada Translation as per:

All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our
thoughts. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him, as the wheel follows the foot of the
ox that draws the carriage.

All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our
thoughts. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.
